Mistra SafeChem at European SSbD Summit in Venice

Program Director Patrik Andersson represented Mistra SafeChem at the SSbD Summit held in October 2025 in Venice, Italy, a high-level European initiative hosted by the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. The event brought together leading policymakers, researchers, and industry representatives to accelerate the practical implementation of Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) across Europe’s chemical and materials sectors.

The Summit is a key part of the European Commission’s ambition to establish a European Innovation Hub for SSbD. This hub will support companies and national centres in applying SSbD principles in real-world innovation, thereby strengthening Europe’s competitiveness and enabling the green and digital transition.

Patrik Andersson participated in roundtable discussions focused on how research programmes and national initiatives can drive practical SSbD solutions and support industry uptake.

The SSbD Innovation Hub will act as a knowledge exchange platform, supporting companies in making informed design choices that minimise environmental impact and ensure human safety throughout the life cycle of chemicals and materials.
