The Mistra SafeChem Phase 2 Annual Meeting took place on 8–9 October at KTH in Stockholm, gathering a vibrant mix of researchers, industry representatives and funding partners for two days filled with knowledge exchange, forward-looking discussions and inspiring collaboration.

Knowledge exchange and collaboration drive progress towards a safer chemical future

The event highlighted the programme’s growing impact in driving the shift towards safer and more sustainable chemical innovations. Presentations and workshops spanned a wide range of topics – from responsible AI applications in toxicology and analytical breakthroughs in textile chemistry to industry-driven advances in green catalysis and safer material design. The diversity of perspectives underscored the strength of Mistra SafeChem’s cross-sectoral approach, where academia, industry and policy work hand in hand to enable transformative change.

Building on achievements and strengthening partnerships for the next phase of Mistra SafeChem

Beyond research results, participants discussed how to strengthen collaboration across work packages and further support early-career scientists, ensuring that the next generation of chemists and innovators can build on the programme’s achievements. The meeting also looked ahead to key milestones, including Mistra SafeChem’s participation in major upcoming events such as ChemCon Europe 2025 and SETAC Europe 2026 – both important arenas for sharing knowledge and building new partnerships.

Programme Director Patrik Andersson closed the meeting by thanking all contributors for their engagement and dedication. He emphasised that the programme’s success depends on the shared commitment to advancing knowledge, fostering innovation, collaboration and accelerating the transition towards a chemical industry that is safe, sustainable and competitive for the benefit of both society and the environment.

Together, we’re driving the shift towards a safer, more sustainable and competitive chemical industry,” said Programme Director Patrik Andersson
