Successful first breakfast seminar on green and safe-by-design chemistry
On 25 September, Mistra SafeChem hosted its first breakfast seminar, focusing on the development and design of sustainable chemical processes in line with the principles of green chemistry.
The online event brought together researchers, industry representatives, and other stakeholders to discuss innovative ways to reduce the risks associated with chemicals.
The seminar was opened by Patrik Andersson, Programme Director of Mistra SafeChem and Innovation Coordinator in Sustainable Chemistry at IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute. Presentations were given by Senior Principal Scientist Magnus Johansson from AstraZeneca and Professor Belén Martín-Matute from Stocklm University.
The speakers highlighted the importance of moving towards safe-and-sustainable-by-design processes, using a holistic approach that integrates risk assessment, life cycle management, and the development of greener synthesis methods.
– We are very pleased to see the strong interaction between development of new innovative chemistry, and safety and life cycle perspectives in creating more sustainable solutions of the future. We look forward to arranging follow-up seminars later this year to continue the dialogue between research and industry, says Patrik Andersson.
